They wanted to make great wines, unique wines - this was not in line with the production rules of the Chianti region. If the wines were not produced according to the DOC conditions, they remained ordinary table wines - Vino da Tavola. A table wine that is known all over the world - the Super Tuscans are particularly appreciated in the USA.

Antinori began to cultivate the grapes for the world-famous Supertuscan on the 60 hectare Tignanello vineyard! The first vintage was launched in 1971 and revolutionized the wine world! As the strict Chianti Classico consortium stipulated that no white wine was to be used, the wine could only be described as a table wine - Vino da Tavola. But it was not a simple table wine! Initially, the ingenious gentlemen matured this Sangiovese in barrique barrels in order to emulate the internationally recognized Bordeaux. It was only later - from 1975 - that Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc were added to the Tignanello.
