Rheingau
The Rheingau is a cultural landscape in south-western Hesse, stretching along the right bank of the Rhine between Walluf and Lorchhausen and from there to the main ridge of the Taunus. The Rhine, which forms the border between Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate here, is diverted from its general northward course near Wiesbaden and flows westwards for around 25 kilometres before turning northwards again at the Binger Loch. The dominant terrain is therefore the south-facing slope, which is particularly beneficial for wine growing in the Rheingau.
