Wie wird Roséwein hergestellt?

Michael Winter, the Wine Trader, answers wine questions!

Today's wine question: How is rosé wine made?

It's a myth that rosé is made by blending white and red wines! There are different methods of making a rosé, but one rule of thumb applies to all forms of production: The longer the contact with the skins of the exclusively blue grapes during pressing, the more intense the color and flavor. For some light and lighter rosés, this process takes place in a few hours, sometimes only minutes. Strong rosé wines lie longer on the mash, which may well be a few days. The best drinking temperature for rosé is around 7 to 12 degrees. With strong Rosés one can add on hot days to the grill evening with friends quite times one or two ice cubes, without diluting the flavors!

Very much to the benefit!
